Last night was our 2nd annual Glow Run. A culminating event for the after school running club program, the Glow Run raised money for our PTO as well as emphasized physical fitness and community support. What a great turn out by the whole Crozet Community...over 330 participants! Each registrant received a day-glow yellow T-shirt, a glow bracelet, and a glow necklace. Kids ran around the scenic running club course for as long as they wanted, as fast as they wanted, with friends or family or on their own. Before the event participants played soccer, played on the playground, wandered through the rain garden habitat, and ran through an obstacle course set up by parent Mary Miller. After the run, there was a dance party and DJ. The event was highlighted in PTO Today. Kindergarten students came out with clipboards and drawing paper to make observations in the habitat today. 2nd graders are learning how to use science notebooks. After observing and drawing Coreopsis plants in the classroom for several days. Today the students drew bird's eye views of the rain garden habitat and the butterfly garden while students took turns planting the Coreopsis in the rain garden. 2nd grade students began an ABC countdown to the end of school with Amphibian Day for the letter A. As part of Morning Meeting, they took a quick trip out to the southern wetland habitat to see if they could spot any frogs. They saw some dragonflies and some blooms on the blueberry bushes we thought had died, but no frogs! We have had plenty of rain lately to help our new plants grow. The kids thought this was so cool how the Lupine petals captured the rain drops.
Today we had Community Night at our school where each grade highlights special projects they are working on throughout the year. 2nd grade students came out to the habitat with their families and each family planted a new perennial in the habitat. It was awesome because most of our plants from last year have not come up yet and everyone got excited about the Spring. Even in winter students wander through the habitat. Today they found a nest never before spotted. |
